Mickey and Minnie Mouse are not the first names that come into mind when thinking of Retford – they are much more likely to be found in the US or alternatively delighting crowds at Disneyland® Resort Paris.

However, this year, they are taking some time off to take part in Retford’s Big Switch On, which is taking place on Tuesday 29th November.

The Big Switch On 2011 is scheduled to start at 1pm with Retford’s annual Christmas Market and a Santa’s Grotto in The Square.

The lighting procession will begin at 5:30pm, with a civic ceremony, Santa’s sleigh, a brass band and school choir, dance group and sound stage. At 7pm, the Disney greats will switch on the town’s Christmas lights.

Want to get into the Disney spirit? Anyone who dresses up as a Disney character will be in with the chance of winning a prize, so whether you’re an aspiring Buzz Lightyear, an Incredible, Snow White or one of the Seven Dwarves, harness that inner cartoon character and we’ll see you on November 29th!

Late shopping is taking place on the night of the Retford Christmas lights switch on, as well as December 15th and 22nd.

Plus, from December 1st until December 24th from 1pm onwards, there is free parking available in any Bassetlaw District Council car park in Retford – the perfect opportunity to save money, support independent retailers and buy local!
