WANDSWORTH OASIS TRADING BRINGS CHRISTMAS CHEER TO LOCAL CHARITIES
At a Christmas celebration on Wednesday 10 December Wandsworth Oasis Trading presented a total of £46,383 in donations to charities that support local people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Norman Routledge, Chairman of Wandsworth Oasis Trading, presented the donations to the Salvation Army in Wandsworth for their tireless work with people affected by HIV and AIDS; to Food Chain for their outstanding work preparing and delivering food and dietary workshops to those critically ill as a result of HIV and AIDS; to Children with AIDS, many of whom live in such poverty, they have not had so much as a chocolate at Christmas; and to Mildmay in Shoreditch, which has cared for and supported so many people living with HIV and AIDS from the Wandsworth area over the last 20 years.
The celebration was held at the new Salvation Army Hall in the heart of Wandsworth and was attended by local residents, members of the Salvation Army, staff and volunteers from Wandsworth Oasis Trading and the organisations in receipt of the grants. Martin Linton MP( Battersea) joined the Salvation Army band to accompany a selection of popular carols and local community choir, Streatham Voices, gave a fantastic rendition of a number of popular seasonal songs.
Patrick Lethaby, Company Secretary of Wandsworth Oasis Trading, said,
“Over the last 10 years, we have donated more nearly £250,000.. I would like to thank the Salvation Army for the use of their hall this evening; all the staff and volunteers of Wandsworth Oasis Trading who give up their time for this vital cause; and the local residents who provide the articles that make our work possible. The treatment of HIV/AIDS has come a long way in this time and people now live much longer than they did 20 years ago; however, there is still no cure. We are still needed. We are still caring. Our work goes on.”
