CELEBRATING 100 YEARS
The foundations of NFU Mutual go back further than you might think.
During 2010, NFU Mutual celebrates 100 years in business. They would not have been around all of that time without pleasing an awful lot of customers!
Stratford upon Avon and District Farmers Union wasformed in April 1909 and became of historic importance to agriculture.
During its infancy, seven local farmers launched a scheme to entice new members to the Union by offering insurance at cost price. The plan worked well, and by 1910 the Midlands Farmers Mutual Insurance Society Ltd came into being. Since opening the first office, NFU Mutual has gone from strength to strength and now provides a wide range of insurance cover.
NFU won the accolade of being the Auto Express 'Car Insurer of the Year' in 2009 for the 4th consecutive year.
Mutuality Matters
NFU Mutual is run for its customers, not shareholders, so they like to reward their customers' loyalty with a Mutual Bonus, which takes the form of a discount on general insurance renewal premiums.
Nearly 93 per cent of NFU Mutual general insurance customers renewed their policies last year and the special bonus means they will receive premium reductions ranging from 12% to 20% this year.
Mutual Bonus is NFU Mutual's way of enabling its loyal customers to share in the benefits. Over the last 10 years when the scheme began, general insurance customers have benefited from an estimated £617m and the company's Centenary double bonus in 2010 is expected to see another £184m shared with them when they renew their policies for:
