Daylight is free, why not harness it?
The time is right for PV energy
The time is right for homeowners, farmers, businesses and community organisations in Preston to harness the power of daylight. The support of the government and their Feed In Tariff Scheme (FITS) and the launch of their carbon energy targets it makes financial and environmental sense to act now.
What is PV and how does it work?
PV (Photovoltaic) Solar Panel Systems convert daylight/sunlight into electricity using layers of semi-conducting materials, this electricity is then converted by an invertor and can be used to power household appliances via your existing wiring or can be fed back to the National Grid. PV can work just as well on cloudy or winter days.
What is FITS and how does it work?
The government had ordered electricity suppliers to pay you for each unit of electricity generated. Plus a further payment for every unit exported to the National Grid. The rates are guaranteed for 25 years and index-linked. So you have the security of your income as well as free energy during daylight hours.
