Cuerden Valley Park beer festival

Went along to the Cuerden Valley Park beer festival yesterday. Great to see a new community event take place for the first time and see it be a real success.

What a fantastic event, stunning grounds, live bands throughout the day, 30+ types of beer on tap, and best of all a real community friendly atmosphere.

Local people were finding old neighbours and friends and kids and families were sat on the grass having picnics - this has got to become an ennual event surely!

The organisors had no idea whether they would get 2 or 2000 to come along - well it has far exceeded their expectations....they've already seen more than 2000 and still all day Sunday to go up until 10pm tonight!

At 8.20pm last night the heaven's opened and it was the biggest deluge I have seen for many years - did the revellers pack up and head for home?...not a chance - the event just turned into one big party when 100's of people dived for cover under numerous gazeebos and marquees - which I have to say all added to the ambience. Suddenly people were chatting to folk they would never have met if not for that downpoar.

I for one am going back again today...only for an hour, I just want to make the most of what I think is the best outdoor event so far this year in Preston.

Those who want to pop along, it's off Shady Lane, near the Sue Ryder care home. Sat Nav PR5 6BY - don't miss it

As one of the volunteers that worked alongside the park to make this beer festival happen I was delighted to read your write up on the event. I think that this will indeed become an annual event and there has even been some talk of doing another one in September. report abuse...

Thanks Colin, makes all our efforts worthwhile. We are desperately short of money and that is why we are starting to run events like this. The Park, when set up, was under-endowed so the 'fund' no longer raises enough income to pay for the maintainance of the Park. If anyone living in the vicinty of the Park would like to become a Friend and contribute, if only financially, please go to www.focvp.org.uk to read about us and contact us. Our intial range of beers were sponsored by local businesses so it just goes to prove what we can achieve if we all work together. Thanks again Colin we'll try to continue and improve.
