Prestatyn Ice Rink

Well as the winter olympics near their conclusion, I have a confession.  I have become a curling junkie!!  This seemingly straightforward sport has got me hooked and has revealed itself to be far more than I ever knew it was.

Not just a simple case of sliding stones down an icey strip and hoping to hit your oppponents stone out of the way - this game involves skill, strategy and a great deal of upper body strength.

Sadly if you like me would like to get more involved in the sport you would have to travel to Deeside, the home of our only ice rink here in North Wales - but not for long?!

A recent article in The Denbighshire Visitor confirms that plans are well underway for the refurbishment of Pontins, plans which include an all weather sports arena and an ice rink.

All being well, the development should create new jobs locally and subject to planning permission will be completed over the next 2 years.

Hi, sorry to bring bad news but i think you will find that you cannot curl on a plastic rink, after talking to most of the skaters from prestatyn (of which there are a lot) they will not be using the pontins rink as the type of rink they are going to build ruins ice skate blades, this is very sad as many of us have wanted an ice rink in Prestatyn for decades now and travel to deeside more then 3/4 times a week, i know that at the moment it is a very big hit with the children of Prestatyn High School and on most Friday and weekend evening you will find at least 30 / 40 using the disc on ice at Deeside. report abuse...
