The Mary Rose was commissioned in 1509 shortly after Henry VIII came to the throne. A unique ship, built for one of England's most famous kings at a pivotal time in history. After many years service she was finally lost in July 1545, as she was about to engage with a large French invasion fleet.
After many centuries had passed, finally in October 1982, The Mary Rose was raised, watched by millions of people all over the world. The barge carrying her was towed into Portsmouth where she now rests today.
Coming to visit the Mary Rose and the museum will have something for everyone to enjoy. The museum hosts many activities that adults and children can participate in, and school holidays are superbly catered for.
It's also an exciting time, because a brand new museum is going to start being built very soon.
On display within the museum are many wonderful artefacts that were recovered from the ship.
The Mary Rose is situated with the Historic Dockyard here in Portsmouth.
