Ok I admit it, I love food..... no seriously I really love eating out. There is something extremely pleasant about tucking in to some delicious food which someone else has prepared for you. Don't get me wrong though, you can have the most wonderful food but if the atmosphere is wrong then the food doesn't taste half as good !
Now in another life I worked as a Hotel and Restaurant Consultant... sounds delightful doesn't it? Well actually I rarely got fed. How a business can expect you to make a judgement on how they operate their kitchens, accommodation and everywhere in between without at least offering you a meal I don't know. But a few cups of coffee doesn't help to make the right impression.
So the point I am making is that for a fabulous dining experience it is food + atmosphere. That of course would include the team working in the business. Fabulous food doesn't have to have a fantastic price included and it doesn't have to originate from an ultra modern restaurant. Some of the best meals I have had were sitting in a garden under a lemon tree in Zante. The whole package.. mouth watering food, beautiful simple surroundings and that very special atmosphere you get from a team who love what they do.
I would love to know where you think does the best food in the local area. Bars, bistros, cafes, brasseries, hotels, caterers, restaurants ... whoever does good stuff with food. My plan is to visit them and try them out and then put some comments up in my blog. If someone is doing a really good job in Portishead, then I want to know so I can tell others.... word of mouth is so powerful for restaurants and cafes.
