Hurray, here is the first blog for the Best of Portishead, hopefully there will be many more to follow!
Running the Best of Portishead is a great job and it is really rewarding to be able to work with local businesses. Equally rewarding is when we can promote local events and really showcase what happens in the Portishead area.
My background is that of marketing and business development in the catering, hotel and hospitality sectors. I have worked with the blue chip businesses such as Whitbread and I have worked with sole owner businesses. Having run my own business for 10 years I know how important it is to keep evolving your business. Even more important is to have a significant and effective profile.
The most important message I can give businesses is to respect other people's expertise. You have your expertise and others have theirs. Either way, rather than try and do it all yourself, work out your strengths and accept that sometimes it is more cost effective and productive to use other businesses to support yours!
The big news is the upcoming networking event, Portishead and Clevedon - Business by the Sea. It will be a great opportunity for local businesses to connect with each other and form successful business relationships. Of course its open to all businesses and is on 22 September 2009 at 6pm - 8.30pm. The event will be at Kestrel Court on Harbour Road.
