Free Wildlife Fun Day

A free Wildlife Fun Day is being held on Saturday 15 July at the Bourne Valley Nature Reserve as part of the ‘Local Nature Reserve Celebrations’ happening across the country between 15 – 30 July.

The Local Nature Reserve Celebrations, which are part funded by English Nature, aim to encourage people to enjoy the wildlife on their doorsteps through a number of events organised across the country.

To join in the celebrations, the Borough of Poole Rangers have organised the fun day at the Bourne Valley Nature Reserve, one of Poole’s hidden treasures.

Among the many free activities being organised throughout the day are:

High-tech pond dipping complete with cameras and microscopes to see the wildlife close up
Nature and folk tales from a storyteller
The chance to get hands on with insects and moths
Arts activities which include making wildlife masks and the opportunity to enter the competition to create the new Bourne Valley Nature Reserve logo
The Urban Heaths Partnership with heathland games, information and make-and-take arts activities
Guided walks
Information displays
Councillor Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment said:  “This is a great opportunity for people to learn more about the local wildlife and have fun at the same time whilst in the surroundings of our beautiful nature reserve.

The fun takes place between 11am to 4pm in the field at the bottom of Scott Road (off the Wallisdown Road, halfway between the Wallisdown and Mountbatten roundabouts).
