OrthoKeratology
OrthoKeratology (or Ortho-k) has been labelled the safe alternative to laser surgery. It is a procedure where the patient sleeps in specially designed lenses, removing them in the morning and then having clear vision WITHOUT contact lenses or glasses for 1-2 days.
Unlike laser surgery, it is completely reversible and there is ongoing research to verify claims that Ortho-k can also halt the progress of myopia.
It's ideal for sports people, especially those involved with water based sports. It's also fantastic for those involved in martial arts or boxing.

Disposable contact lenses
Daily disposable contact lenses are ideal for lens wearers who want part time wear (for sports use, for example) or if they want to dispense with their daily cleaning routine.
They are available as standard distance vision, mono-vision, multi-focal or astigmatic.
The new Acuvue Trueye is now available and is the world's first silicon hydrogel. This is the latest technology for soft contact lenses and has the highest oxygen permeability of any daily disposable contact lens.
The more oxygen your cornea has, the healthier it will be and the less at risk you are of eye infections!
Six monthly, three monthly, monthly and two weekly disposable contact lenses are also available from KTO Lenses in Poole.
Toric contact lenses
Toric lenses are used to correct astigmatism. They are available in all types of lenses and prescriptions, including varifocal, daily disposable and rigid gas permeable with standard soft lenses (not disposable) available for higher prescriptions.
Astigmatism needs a more complex two curves/powers on the eye to correct it fully.
KTO Lenses in Poole can prescribe lenses that can correct up to 30 dioptres long or short sight with up to 11.00 dioptres astigmatism.
Continuous wear lenses
Our opticians can advise on continuous wear lenses which should only be recommended by your eyecare practitioner.
All our CW lenses are made from SI-H because these have a significantly higher oxygen permeability than standard soft lenses and this reduces the risks associated with continuous wear lenses.
We'll carry out full assessments and trials and if there is anything that could increase your risk, we'll advise you against this type of wear.
It can however be a fantastic way to wear lenses especially for people with busier lifestyles.
ChromaGen lenses
ChromaGen lenses are specially tinted lenses that are worn either as glasses or contact lenses.
They can correct dyslexia and colour deficiency.
Dry eye treatments
At KTO Lenses, our opticians specialise in dry eye treatments. There are various causes of dry eye and it needn't be induced by contact lenses.
The treatment we provide will depend very much on the cause. We'll firstly fully evaluate your condition and then use one of the range of treatments we have - from comfort drops and supplements to Eyebags.
Keratoconus (KC)
Keratoconus belongs to a group of conditions known as Ectasias - the dilation or distension of a hollow organ or canal.
It is a bulging forward and thinning of the cornea that usually causes some drop in vision and astigmatism.
Vision can be corrected using a number of different lenses - usually gas permeable - although there are some soft lenses designed for KC.
We currently use three different KC designs, including a hybrid of soft and gas permeable materials.
Post laser / corneal surgery
Sometimes refractive laser surgery can leave complications which cannot be improved by further surgery, sometimes because the cornea has become irregular in shape.
Our opticians have the latest equipment and we can map these irregular shapes and then design contact lenses to fit.
These lenses can improve the quality of the vision as well as topping up your prescription.
