Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is promising a ‘knockout’ time for all those who attend the first-ever Tonyrefail Family Fun Day at Ty’n-Y-Bryn Park on Sunday, 16 October.
It is a free event and gates open from 11am until 4pm, and attractions include Craft Stalls, Fun Fair and Giant Inflatable rides to suit all ages from one to 21.
But the main attraction on the day is going to be the It’s A Knockout competition, based on the popular BBC TV series, which ran from 1966 to 1988.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, organisers of the event, are seeking teams of between six and 10 competitors over the age of 16 to take part in the It’s A Knockout.
Those taking part will compete in eight different activities, with prizes and trophies being presented to the winning teams. A host of booby prizes will also be awarded throughout the day with all those taking part getting a commemorative medal.
There will also be free half-time refreshments for all of the competitors.
To enter, each team must raise £60 sponsorship, with the money going to the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Mayor’s Charity Appeal.
Participants can also raise money for charities of their choice as any monies raised in addition to the entrance fee can be donated elsewhere if desired.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor, Cllr Sylvia Jones, said: “I am so looking forward to the Family Fun Day, particularly as my chosen charities this year will benefit from the It’s A Knockout tournament.
“I am sure the Council’s event will be a huge success and full of fun for all those who attend – and better still admission on the day is absolutely free.
“Once again, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is bringing communities together with this Family Fun Day, following on from the great success of all the other summer events that have taken place throughout the County Borough, attracting thousands of people.”
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Mayor, Cllr Sylvia Jones, has nominated six chosen charities this year – RCT Crossroads, Viva Project, Rhondda Powerhouse Trust, GTFM Radio, Mid Rhondda Operatic Society and Colstars Youth Theatre.
The Tonyrefail Family Fun Day has been rearranged by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Events Team after being forced to postpone it due to adverse weather conditions earlier this summer.
