We remain loyal to traditional brewing methods and continue to establish Elgood's Brewery as both a successful 'free trade' business and local tourist attraction.

Our Beers

It's simple - 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!' Over the years, Elgood's Brewery has adopted the latest technical advances to enable the brewing of a complete range of beers to cater for everyone's tastes. However, we are proud to remain loyal to the traditional brewing methods that have made British ale the best in the world.

Famous, award winning beers include:

Black Dog - a traditional, dark mild beer at 3.6% abv, Black Dog has numerous CAMRA awards and is a well known name in the free trade. The beer is well balanced with a full roast flavour.

Cambridge Bitter - our main brand beer at an abv of 3.8%, Cambridge Bitter was named 2006 Champion Beer of Britain. It is a mid brown bitter with a good balance of malt and hop character, which makes is a pleasant special drink.

Golden Newt - at 4.1% abv, Golden Newt is an award winning pale session bitter. The beer has a prominent hop character and the use of Cascade gives a pleasing citrus aroma.

Greyhound - Greyhound is a strong bitter with a rich brown colour and a strength of 5.2%. The beer's full flavour is derived from a recipe of pale ale malt, torrified wheat, invert sugar and roast barley.

As well as our well known cask conditioned ales, Elgood's Brewery also supplies a variety of:

  • Seasonal Ales
  • Bottled Beers
  • Smooth Beers
  • Occasional Brews.

Incorporating specimen trees as old as the brewery, along with herbaceous borders, a lake, rockery, exotic house and herb garden, our gardens are the perfect place to relax and enjoy the summer.
