The Ryder Cup is a golf trophy, where matches are played between teams from Europe and the United States and are administered by the PGA of America and the PGA of European Tour.

The PGA announced that the 40th Ryder Cup in 2014 will be played from 26 to 28 September 2014. This high profile sporting event will take place in Gleneagles, Perthshire.

It will be the first time in more than 40 years that the tournament will be staged in Scotland. Perthshire, set in the heart of Scotland with its spectacular views of the countryside, will have the opportunity to represent Scotland, The Home of Golf, on this high-profile event.

The Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP, Scotland’s First Minister, said: “During the week of the Ryder Cup itself, the Scottish economy is expected to benefit by up to £100m, as visitors flock from across the globe to experience superb golf on one of the best courses in the world.

“But the benefits of the tournament will long outlive that special week and be felt for many years to come. As well as the lasting economic benefit, having the world’s premier golf team event on our doorstep will allow thousands of young Scottish golfers chance to see the very best the sport has to offer up close, giving them an experience they will never forget and inspiring them to achieve great things in the future.”
