What should be planted first in this years vegetable patch?

I spent a happy hour at Penrallt Garden Centre over in Moylegrove, North Pembrokeshire last week.  In fact needed to spend longer but it was a work day!!

I am looking to create my first vegetable patch and thought I might start with something easy like potatoes. Peter and his staff are so knowledgeable and helpful and made some sensible easy suggestions.

For instance seed potatoes are now in stock as well as loads of vegetable seed which apparently can be brought on in the Greenhouse!  Sounds a lot of work to me!  But not everybody has a greenhouse I said to which he responded see this!  See the photograph below, a large ‘mini’ greenhouse which features a strong tubular steel frame with a tough green powder coated finish and a heavy duty reinforced cover.  There is a useful extra wide door – ideal for pushing a wheel barrow through.  The ‘door’ can be rolled up or zipped shut depending on the weather.  It is easy to assemble – so I am reliably informed!  It has freestanding shelf units and staging.  This is ideal for the small garden or indeed the novice gardener who is beginning on the gardening adventure like me!  I was impressed with these and they come in several sizes to fit in with your needs.  Of course for the established gardener already with a greenhouse these may well be an economical way of adding additional undercover growing space!

Back to the potatoes  - Peter showed me a neat idea. Potato Grow Bags and Penrallt has a special offer Buy Two and get one Free for just £4.99 click here to take advantage of the offer.

It is well worth visiting Penrallt Garden Centre it is almost a day out attraction.  Come early take a walk on the coastal path, enjoy lunch in their Pavillion Café and then peruse the centre.  By the way the shop is under refurbishment but it is still fully open.   Oh yes and do ask about their loyalty cards!
