This involves the use of a chemical commonly knows as peroxide. In a gel or paste form, the peroxide is placed in mouth trays specifically designed to fit over your teeth.
The trays are kept in your mouth for a specific amount of time, bleaching the teeth in the process. This is usually repeated until the desired level of whiteness is reached. It is also possible to take the mouth trays and gel/paste home and undertake the whitening process yourself.
Also available at the clinic are laser and micro-abrasion whitening.
These forms of treatments are usually quicker and more effective than chemical bleaching, but are far more expensive.
They are typically reserved for more stubborn forms of staining that usually result from injury or infection. The dentist will be able to advise you on the best course of whitening treatment for you.
