When 27 Mar 2010 7.30-10pm
Where Ellesmere Town Hall
1-3 Willow Street Oswestry Shropshire,SY12 0EG

Second of two nights

A live musical show (this is the first of two evenings) which includes footage of original artists and over 40 slides, with the musicians telling the musical story of the development of popular music.

With the aid of a light-hearted narrative, they tell how legalised prostitution in the late 1800s in New Orleans created a demand for live music in clubs; how band music got started in Chicago during the Mafia-dominated 1920s; how the grand hotels established the radio broadcasting big bands like Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington; how Glenn Miller enlivened the wartime years with some of the greatest dance music of all time; how Paul Desmond set the pop charts on fire with a jazz record with 5 beats in the bar and how the South African jazz pioneers reminded us in recent times that music is so important as a voice when other freedoms are linked.

(£15 per show or £25 for both shows)
First Evening: The Story of Jazz & Swing on 27th Feb
