Your Views - What are Oswestry's main traffic hotspots?

Bookmark and Share

It's looking like there'll be a review of Oswestry traffic flow soon.  In anticipation of that, we'd like to know what YOU would say are Oswestry's traffic hot spots, bottlenecks, problems, places which really need sorting out.

Also, if you have ideas on how it might be organised more effectively, let us know.

We will pass on any comments to the review.

Some that come to mind are:

  • Smithfield St/Marks and Spencer - virtual one-way and dangerous for crossing.
  • English Walls/Leg St roundabout - often a bottleneck.
  • Cross St closure - has been much debate about this for and against.

It's clear that Oswestry's traffic flow is complex and we hope the review will be done "in the round" and consider not just traffic, but the impact on pedestrians, disability access ramps, shops and the general experience of being in town.

Please add you comments below.

Thank you.

From twitter: @subzerobear The junction at the end of Roft St and Middleton Rd. By the wonderful Salop chip shop. Hate that junction. Love those chips. report abuse...

John, not sure who these comments will be aimed at but essentially your last paragraph is the key. It seems pointless to consider traffic 'hotspots' without defining the problems that are to be addressed. Tinkering in one location will simply push the 'traffic' elsewhere to cause another 'HS'. If this originates from SC Engineers then that will be the response and consequence. What is needed is clear definition of possible 'futures' for Oswestry which then require circultion solutions. If you decide, for example, everyone has to get their car as close to their destination as possible then that dictates the answer. If you chose to creat a pedestrianised core with opportunities to enhance the offer, then some circulation options are ruled out and other issues come to the fore like park and ride and walking. It seems that the designing and discussion and agreement(?) to these 'futures' is the essential first step. report abuse...
