THE MARY ANN EVANS HOSPICE
When you think of a hospice, many people think of doom and gloom but it really is not like that at all! At the Mary Ann Evans Hospice it is hard to believe the patients have life limiting illnesses. The atmosphere is great and all the staff and visitors have smiles on their faces.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Hospice provides care and support to patients and their families from as far afield as Austrey, Curdworth, Polesworth as well as Nuneaton, Bedworth and Atherstone.
SO HOW DO WE ACTUALLY CARE?
From Monday to Friday the staff provide care for patients with life limiting illnesses in our Day Hospice
Patients can also be cared for in their own homes provided by our Hospice at Home Teams.
We provide support through our Bereavement Team to patients families
We have a Hospice Chaplain who offers pastoral and spiritual care, support and friendship
We have over 200 volunteers who kindly support us
Care is provided free of charge to all our patients
The Mary Ann Evans Hospice was established to enhance the quality of life to people who had a diagnosis of cancer or other life limiting illnesses. It offers a warm and welcoming home from home atmosphere. Whatever the patients cultures, beliefs and faiths, whatever their needs:- physical, emotional, psychological, social or spiritual we can offer care and support for both themselves and their families. The Day Hospice can provide care for up to 15 patients per day Monday to Friday. All the care is given free of charge to those receiving it.
We have a Hospice doctor and a team of dedicated qualified nurses, healthcare assistants, supported by a team of fantastic volunteers. The service is nurse led and whilst they attend the day hospice they are still under the care of their own GP, district nurse, consultant or other care professionals. We have our Chaplain too, who offers support to both patients and their families.
HOSPICE AT HOME
This service is available 365 days a year, which enables patients to stay in their own homes, where possible, if that is their wish. The team consists of a Staff Nurse and Senior Healthcare Assistants who are all experienced professionals.
The team offer respite care during the day or overnight depending on the needs of the patient and carer.
Last year the team:
- Received 221 new referrals
- Averaged 62 home visits per week
- Travelled 31,000 miles
So as you can see, this is a valuable service offered to the local community, again costing money.

The bear is one of our latest, cutest fundraising ideas. Its a wonderful way of solving the 'what to buy' present dilemma........It's ideal for all ages and is a charitable way of giving.
When you adopt a charity bear you will receive a gift wrapped bear and a certificate of adoption which explains how your donation has helped:-
£10 pays for transporting 2 patients to/from the Hospice
£15 buys aromatherapy oils for use with comp therapies
£20 provides lunches for 5 patients
£50 funds a 4 hour session of Hospice and Home care
£100 provides a night care session of Hospice at Home care
When Santa or the Birthday Fairy mixes up the present lists and you get an unsuitable gift you could make a difference by donating them to the Hospice to help us continue in the new year by helping to raise the £1000 needed every day to keep the Hospice open and continue with the standard of care offered.
