So, how does someone manage to combine walnut whips, stinky fish and a Crow into a business and job hunting blog?
Could it be his "helicopter thinking"? Could it be his years of experience in business, as a coach, a lecturer at Cranfield and as a freelance writer?
Whatever it "is", he has it. An ability to make things seem achievable, to put a different perspective on things, whether you're job hunting, thinking about leaving your job or starting a new business.
I can honestly say that Richard Maun's books are fantastic.
Geoff Nelder, Director, Fellowship and Enterprise Centre, Cranfield University sums it up when he says of Richard's latest book, Job Hunting 3.0:
"This book demystifies the process of looking for a job .....It makes clear that job seeking is a process with a series of steps to follow.
The author breaks down each step, explains why it is important and what it achieves, and gives lots of tips and hints and examples."
Some of Richard's tips revolve around the language that you use:
For example, he tells you to say that you're "looking for work" not that you're "out of work" and has a checklist of questions to ask at interviews which use subtle sales techniques to help you gauge the interviewer's level of interest.
Some of Richard's job hunting tips involve practical issues, such as where to look for jobs - including things which most people will not have thought of.
But more than that, Richard gives you a sense of worth, of optimism.
The checklists, ideas, killer interview questions and other practical advice make the book well worth buying in itself, but what you also get, is encouragement to keep going, to see that there is an end in sight and to see things from different angles. This is invaluable if you, or someone you know, is looking for a job.
