According to a recent survey carried out by the Institute of Leadership Management (ILM), Coaching is one of the most powerful and cost effective ways of improving individual and organisational performance.
The report reveals that
92% of coached managers see their performance improve
96% of organisations see the benefits to the individual
95% see benefits to the organisation as a whole
So who tends to receive the coaching?
The survey only took into account companies with 250 plus employees, but of those 85% of senior managers and directors receive coaching, 85% of middle managers, 63% of other employees below management level.
And the benefits, as perceived by these companies?
The benefits were far ranging and included:
- Performance improvement
- Personal development - with benefits to the employee and the organisation
- Improved self awareness and increased confidence
- Improvement of business knowledge and skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Leadership and management skills
- Improved Communication
- Conflict Resolution
- Improved Attitudes
- Improved Motivation
Coaching was often associated with career progression and in developing senior executives.
83% of employers sourced people internally for coaching staff.
But who trains those internal coaches? If the information is being handed down, then it is imperative to ensure correct training from the start.
That is where experts like Richard Maun from Primary People come in.
Richard is a speaker, author, business coach and trainer.
Those completing his coaching course gain a Level 5 ILM certificate.
This training takes place over a number of months at a pace to suit the candidate, with meetings taking place at their place of work, backed up by telephone and online support. The training includes practical sessions where the candidate will keep a coaching log as part of their assessment.
For those short of time, Richard has devised shorter courses lasting two to three days - Transactional Analysis Tools for Coaches and Transactional Analysis Tools for Leaders.
The TA Tools for Coaches workshop is designed for people who work as coaches or who use coaching styles of leadership to enable others to solve problems, develop new thinking and overcome obstacles.
The course focuses on the process of coaching and how people can use TA to become more skilful. All delegates become student members of the ILM for 6 months. On completion of the course, delegates are awarded a formal ILM Endorsed Certificate, which can be used as evidence of continuous personal development.
This course has proved extremely popular - in fact it evolved in the first place due to customer demand!
