Do you know what you have bought?

Do you immediately reach for the computer and the search engine to renew your motor insurance cover?

Well, I have a word of warning for you - take a careful note as to the policy excess you end up with on that policy.

An excess refers to an amount that you pay following an incident and the variations between the policies are quite dramatic.

The two main types can easily  trip you up.

Within most policies there is a Compulsory Excess that is automatically included on that policy - maybe £250.00, with a smaller excess for any windscreen claims - maybe £75.00.

You are probably blissfully unaware of this as they can be tricky to spot and as you press on through the question set, the Insurers ask if you would like a Voluntary Excess for a further reduction on your eventual premium.

That looks very good. You may think  "I don't mind taking on board the first say £200 and take the risk for a cheaper premium"

But what you may not have realised, is that the policy may already have an excess as mentioned above,  and your voluntary amount is added to the Compulsory amount, making in this case a total amount payable in the event of an incident of £450.00.

Could you find this amount? I doubt it!

You need to compare like for like and if you go through a Local broker like ourselves, we will tell you the excess amount so that you know all the facts.

Don't get caught out.  Ask us for a quotation and get a competitive premium, have someone to talk to at any time,  come and call into our office if you want.
