Newport has literally dozens of professional photographers you could choose from. Peter Rowlands is an exceptional photographer.
Exceptional, not just because he takes beautiful professional photographs - but because of the range and styles his work encompasses, which are then developed and transferred in and onto just about any kind of finish you can imagine, including (but by no means limited to,): Aluminum, Acrylic, Canvas - as well as Print. (And soon, wood!)
With the perfectionist eye of an artist, Peter can enhance even the most seemingly perfect location for a photo-session - whether it's a Corporate event or a Family get-together, a series or variety of pictures (on any topic!) for calendars, posters, marketing images, or home/studio-based personal portrait portfolios. For events, there's no waiting either! - The finished product can be produced for you there and then, if so required.
Set in the beautiful surrounds of Beechwood Park in the heart of Newport, his compact studio offers the best of both worlds for portrait sessions. Inside, a select range of backdrops to compliment the subject or model, whilst literally right outside, natures own variable beauty and ranges of colour. There's no 'sitting-fee.' as is usually charged by other studio-photographers. If you don't like what you see, you don't buy - and it doesn't cost you anything! Peter can even provide you with the services of a professional make-up artist (at a small additional cost) - and usually have the prints back for you the next day.
A keen amateur photographer since the age of 10, Peter only ever regarded his developing skills as a hobby. His first darkroom was set-up in the basement of his parents house. He's always loved the 'great outdoors' - land and seascapes are his favourite, and he's spent many hours taking hundreds of photos' of both! When 'real life' interfered, he was a labourer, then a mechanic, a long-distance lorry driver, a postman - and even a stand-up comedian! But his passion has always been photography!
The opportunity to turn his hobby into his career happened almost by chance, when he was 'commissioned' by a friend who was aware of his talents, to photograph a school production. Such was the quality of the resulting work, he became the schools' official photographer - which led to more schools learning of, and commissioning, Peter. (Peter is fully CRB checked: Disclosure number 001192065510.)
Though a very modest man, he does boast: "I give far better quality of service than any other photographer I know -
and I know 'why' that is! - It's because I actually love the challenge of working with hundreds of children and making each individual photograph, as different as it can be. One thing that really annoys me is when school photographers show no imagination. How many school photographers still use the old blue speckled backgrounds? This is something I refuse to use as it's outdated and looks terrible."
Photographing schoolchildren may require the patience of a saint - other works undertaken by Peter have required a whole host of other qualities: He once worked 37-hours non-stop, in order to meet a new clients deadline! "The originally-booked photographer had let this customer down at the last minute. In a blind panic, he'd grabbed the telephone directory and started ringing-around locally-based photographers. Amazingly, the first six-or-seven he tried went straight to answer phone or weren't answered at all. I was next on the list, and I answered the phone - took the job - and so began a straight 37-hours of work, from going to the location, setting-up, shooting, back to the studio for the editing processes, to the client for approval, to the studio for developing and setting, etc. It was a mammoth job - and I was totally exhausted by the time I finished it. But the customer was ecstatic with my dedication and the quality of my work, and has remained a valued customer ever since!"
As we said at the beginning: Newport has literally dozens of professional photographers you could choose from. . . But now that you know a little bit more about the man behind the lens, why would you choose anyone other than Peter Rowlands!?
