First Aid is not just about responding to an unexpected incident! It is also about looking after someone who is ill or becomes unwell.
1st Choice Training provides first aid in community centres, doctor’s surgeries, schools, colleges, factories and offices.
People at work - or anywhere else for that matter - can and do suffer unexpected injury or illness. In the first instance, the cause of that illness or injury is NOT necessarily the most important matter to consider.
What IS important, is that the sick or injured colleague or friend gets immediate and appropriate First Aid treatment! (That's why it's called FIRST AID!)
If you are an employER, you have a legal obligation and responsibility to ensure that you have arrangements in place to ensure your employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. The initial management of injuries and illness, until expert medical attention is received, can - and often does - make the difference between life and death.
In 1997 the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) published a revised Approved Code of Practice giving practical guidance with respect to Health & Safety (first aid) regulation 1981.
No' of employees | Minimum required | Type of course | Duration of course |
Less than 50 | At least one appointed person | Appointed person course | 1 Day |
50-100 | At least one first aider | First Aid at Work (statutory certificate) | 3 Days |
Per 100 | Additional first aider | First Aid at Work (statutory certificate) | 3 Days |
If you are a business of just five employees (in total) or more, you are LEGALLY obliged to have one QUALIFIED First Aider on the premises, during working hours.
Now think on! . . . What happens if it's the qualified 'First Aider' that gets injured or sick? . . . . Knocked unconscious, maybe, so can't assist in his/her own treatment?
If you're one of those people that always believe 'It never happens to me.' - Great! Because that means YOU'RE THE ONE that should go on the course to become a qualified First Aid provider! If you're one of those thinking, 'It ALWAYS happens to me!' - Well, now you have good reason to make sure the person looking after you 'when it does happen' is qualified to do so!
Regrettably, such common-sense is not always common-practice!
Worse-still, is the prospect of an un-trained person applying First Aid. (Think again! - Would you want to be on the 'receiving-end' of such treatment?)
Regrettably, very few people in society would know how to administer First Aid correctly, if at all. Most, if pushed, would do 'as they think best' - or maybe, just 'put their heads down' and keep-on-walking!
Sad. Isn't it!
On many levels!
First Aid training needn't cost the earth! It's a practical, useful 'tool' to have. It could save your life. Or your colleagues. Or a friends . . . . or your child, your wife, husband, mother, father, baby . . . .
