Designed by Sir Norman Foster, The Sage opened on the 17th December 2004 and is an international home for live music and musical discovery, with local roots, a world-wide reputation, a global programme and a fully inclusive welcome to all its users and to all musical styles and languages, together with facilities for people of all ages to make music, learn music and hear music.
The glass fronted public concourse and foyer links the various areas and offers spectacular views across the River Tyne to Newcastle. Designed for acoustic superiority, there is a 1,650-seat main concert hall with other smaller concert halls. The Sage is the permanent home of the Northern Sinfonia classical orchestra and Folkworks - the folk and dance organisation.
