So much of what we know about ancient Egyptian society comes from their tombs. Those who could afford it invested great resources in trying to ensure an eternal afterlife for themselves. The inspiration for this, their religious beliefs and relevant members of the pantheon will be discussed, as well as aspects of the mummification process and the development of royal tombs over time. The speaker, Beth Asbury, is West Berkshire Council’s Assistant Archaeologist. She has previously worked as an assistant to Dr Zahi Hawass at the Ministry of State for Antiquities in Cairo, and at the Pitt Rivers Museum and Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. She is a Committee member of the Thames Valley Ancient Egypt Society and the Council for Archaeology Wessex Group. Please note: this talk contains images of human remains.
