Collections on display at the beautiful Newark venue include new, original works by:
- Todd White - is a critically acclaimed modern master, a portrait painter for the 21st century. His profile and popularity have increased to the point where his distinctive style and iconic status are recognized across the globe. White's paintings are captivating, demanding repeated viewings, and often evoking laughter or thoughts of familiar emotions. His desire to reveal his subjects innermost feelings provide timeless scenes of attraction and intimacy; beneath the exaggerated features and textured skin of his characters there is truth, both ours and theirs. He was chosen from hundreds of artists as the Official Artist of the GRAMMY® Awards in 2007, the world's most prestigious music event, and in 2009, Todd was invited by Warner Bros. to contribute to a major design exhibition celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the movie classic The Wizard of Oz. Following a string of record-breaking shows in the UK, Todd returned to the US to even greater acclaim, and has since become one of the most collectable and successful living artists in the world.
- Fran Staniland - Fran Staniland is at the forefront of a very talented group of new young British glassmakers. She has recently completed her MA in glass at Sunderland University. Her Ice Series is inspired by the dramatic blues and whites of the Columbian glacier in Canada. Her stunning designs highlight the refraction, reflection and crystal clear clarity of the ice. Her work is immensely tactile and pleasing to both the touch and the eye. Fran has already been invited to exhibit at a major show in New York.
Antonio Iannicelli - is now a renowned artist on the Munich scene, having steadily built a solid reputation. His unique style combines the techniques of impressionism with the vibrancy and intensity of expressionism. His works are represented in important art collections in Europe, USA and Asia
Talantbek Chekirov - An interesting new discovery in the sphere of ornamental art. Talantbek Chekirov was born on April 15, 1971 in the former Soviet republic of Kirghizia. His painting shows varied aspects of the beautiful and the decorative in art; his works are extracts of his rich and broadly situated ideas concerning the ideal notion of the beauty in painting. Therefore, it is of little surprise that such dissimilar genre as landscapes and the stylised antique nude paintings are represented in his work.
- Mario Sanzone was born in Naples, on April 10, 1947. He studied at The Fine Art Academy in Naples where he continues to live and work. After finishing his studies, he dedicated himself to paint professionally, and has since gained an international reputation, taking part in many successful exhibitions in Italy,USA and Europe.
New artists
Ken Devine is a self-taught artist born in Sunderland in 1952.
He attended boarding school at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School in the luxurious 'Capability Brown' designed grounds of Gatton Park, before eventually studying for a BEd(Hons) at Nottingham Trent Polytechnic. He never finished the course, opting instead to plan, with his wife Bev, to open a gallery and framing workshop in rural Nottinghamshire.
Although becoming one of the first in the UK to qualify as a Fine Art Trade Guild Commended Framer, his heart was in painting and, after thirteen years of framing, sold their business.
After exhibiting and demonstrating for many years at Patchings Art Centre, Ken became a resident artist there in 2001/2, where he had his own studio, taught a few classes and generally enjoyed being involved with the place. Giving demonstrations and workshops to art groups and societies was also a feature at this time.
The aptly named Genesis Fine Arts was the first company to distribute his paintings nationwide. Solomon & Whitehead then published Ken''s work and used their extensive national gallery network to sell his originals.
He is currently preparing to base himself near Josselin in rural Brittany and is hoping to forge a more direct and personal relationship with galleries in the UK.
Darren Stevenson - Born 1966, Nottingham artist Darren, was always encouraged to paint, however, this never came in to fruition until later on in life. Darren is building upon a traditional process and theme. He works in oils and under an impressionistic guise. He blends this with modern techniques, abstract in style and by using ‘rabbit skin’ glue he primes the canvas giving it textures and layers. Once dry he uses layers of oil to get the desired effect, sandpaper where necessary and mixing contemporary colour he creates enigmatic seascapes.
Mick Hanbury is a skilful and artistic woodturner who has been turning for over 20 years. He is listed on the Register of Professional Turners as well as being a member of Association of Woodturners of Great Britain. Over the years Mick has developed a unique style of decorative finishes to his pieces and is well known for his beautiful finial boxes, elegant spiral stem goblets, and delicately patterned platters
