Rhydyfro Primary School is one of Neath’s state Primary Schools. It has been a leading performer within the borough of Neath with excellent to outstanding results in the last 5 years of the required SATs at Key Stage 2. Rhydyfro Primary School is not only proud of its academic achievements’ of recent years but also of its philosophy is to educate the whole child as stated in the school’s aims and objectives.


In its recent Estyn Inspection in May 2006, statements about the education and provision given by Rhydyfro Primary School were as follows:

The facilities at Rhydyfro Primary School are excellent. As one of Neath’s newest Primary School buildings, the facilities provide extra opportunities that are conducive to helping the child learn in a stimulating setting.
The School is lead by Mr. W. Griffiths, a visionary and forward looking Headteacher who has a tremendously hard working and supportive staff. The school has set high expectations not only for its pupils but all stakeholders alike, making the culture of the school a learning community for all.
Rhydyfro Primary School serves the community of Rhydyfro and Pontardawe in the borough of Neath. Rhydyfro is only 5 miles from Neath centre. The medium of instruction is through English. Welsh is taught as a second language as part of the National Curriculum, with emphasis on conversational fluency in preparation for further development in the secondary school. An interest in Welsh culture is developed throughout the school through the learning of Welsh songs, verses and hymns as is required by all primary schools in Wales.
