Watch out - there are burglars about (in Monmouth)

We are informed that there have been two burglaries in the Cinderhill Street / Wonastow Road area of Monmouth over the last 5 days.

A private house and Monnow Eye Care have both been burgled and expensive items taken.

Normally there is a pattern to burglaries with a spate of crimes being committed by a small number of individuals, and the police will recognise their modus operandi and in time catch up with them. But don't rely on the police catching them any time soon and take your own precautions.

So, what's the message?

We've all heard it before:

  • Don't leave doors or windows open or unlocked
  • Don't leave tell-tale signs that you aren't inĀ
  • Don't leave expensive items lying around that could attract unwanted attention
  • Do be aware of what is going on in your neighbourhood and if you do see or hear something suspicious dial 999 so that the police are aware and can act.
  • If you get offered something unusually cheap in somewhere you wouldn't expect to buy expensive items, decline pleasantly, walk away and then tell the police.

The items stolen this week include expensive branded sunglasses from Monnow Eyecare as well as personal items and money so be aware!
