1,000 people come to Bridges each week to take part in a remarkable range of activities. Whatever your age or time of life, Bridges will have an activity to interest you, an organisation to support you or a group you can belong to. Pop in and say hello; you'll have a warm welcome. If you haven't been before you'll be amazed at our lovely building and how much is going on. And we're sure you'll want to come back.
Bridges Community Centre is a bustling place with a lovely, warm atmosphere. It hums with activity as different groups come and go, people stop for a chat, enjoy a cup of tea or a spot of lunch. People come here for business, for pleasure, to learn, to improve their health, to give help and to get help. There's a lot going on.
Bridges is for everyone, of all ages.
The centre provides:
· Support and help for the most vulnerable people in Monmouth
· A base for the meetings of local community groups and for local services
· A base for learning, skills, support, healthcare activities, and arts and entertainment
· Rooms for hire for meetings, conferences, weddings and social functions
· A tea room
· A base for local artists in Stables Craft Centre
· A base for local complimentary health practitioners who are part of Monmouth Natural Health Centre
There's far too much happening at Bridges to list it all here so take a look at our website www.bridgescommunity.org.uk for up to date information on all our activity.
If it's difficult for you to get here, our Dial-a-Ride service operates two days a week, bringing people to the centre who have no other form of transport.
A Little Bit of History
Bridges is an independent charity that relies on fundraising and the income it generates to survive.
It was set up in 1984 and has been supporting people in Monmouth ever since. The centre moved to Drybridge House in 2003, combining its community development work with the preservation of one of the town's finest houses.
Bridges is managed by a board of trustees who are all volunteers. A small team of staff work with the board of trustees, developing and managing the centre on a day-to-day basis.
The centre's original aims were to build bridges between people from all parts of the community. They're just as relevant today, as Monmouth continues to grow and respond to life in the 21st century.
Our Volunteers
Bridges relies on an army of volunteers to keep the centre going, to manage the grounds and to provide the range of support we're so proud of. And we're always looking for more. Just a few hours of your time can really make a difference.
We have volunteering opportunities for local people with a little bit of spare time who'd like to support our work. You could help us distribute leaflets, staff our reception during weekday evenings, take part in working parties, sit on one of our committees, help arrange activities for older people … There are all sorts of ways you could lend a hand.
And like all the activities at Bridges, we welcome everyone. We have volunteers aged from 15 to 94 and all ages in between.
