THE UK'S GREAT FISH AND CHIP SUPPER
The Spinal Injuries Association (SIA), celebrates its 35th anniversary on 15 May with its first nationwide fish and chip fundraiser. Volunteer hosts throughout the UK will be kitted up with special low-fat chip and beer-battered fish recipes, special invitations and fundraising hints and tips.
"There has been so much negativity in the news, we just want to help cheer everyone up with a fun, low-cost fundraising event on such a special anniversary. We are acutely aware of the financial difficulties many people are facing, this is why a greater volume of small donations is so important this year," explained Gwen Pearson, head of fundraising for SIA.
The funds raised from this celebratory excuse for a 'night in' with friends, will help continue the support that SIA gives to paralysed individuals and their families. SIA endeavours to step in from the moment a spinal injury occurs, and remains a life-long source of practical help and encouragement. One of their fundamental aims is to preserve the independence of those who have met such awful circumstances.
"2009 is the first year we are running these suppers, but we envisage this becoming a regular, top fundraising initiative in the SIA calendar," explained Elizabeth Wright, the coordinator and founder of SIA's 'Great Fish and Chip Supper'.
