skillscentre:mk is celebrating a double whammy with the launch of a new set of NVQ's through the government initiative Train to Gain and the arrival of Monica Kanwar-Jones as an Engagement Co-ordinator working with the retailers in thecentre:mk to provide the best training solution possible.

The skillscentre:mk is a dedicated training centre which focuses on offering training and development opportunities for every kind of company from SME's to large nationals. In the past two years the skillscentre:mk has enrolled over 1400 delegates, however, it still retains the same aim; to give people the chance to learn new skills, at their own pace and in a way that suits the individual.

The new NVQ's are provided through the government's Train to Gain scheme and are funded or partially funded depending on the course. The funded courses are NVQ Level 2 and include Customer Service and Team Leading, the partially funded courses are NVQ Level 3 and include Customer Service and Management.

Jackie Small, Manager of skillscentre:mk commented on the new courses: "This is fantastic news and the new courses really complement our existing skillscentre:mk course offering. To help businesses succeed in the current economic climate it's vital that investment in training is maintained to ensure your workforce is as prepared as possible.

We target small-to-medium sized enterprises in Milton Keynes and our offering is centred around 'value'. We know that for businesses today they must see a return on investment - these NVQ's will do just that."

skillscentre:mk applied for Train to Gain funding in 2008 and in order to be successful setup up relationships with companies proving that the demand was needed in the local market. skillscentre:mk now has a team of four NVQ assessors to deliver the NVQ's and will be inspected by Ofsted and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to ensure the quality of the training provided.

Further good news comes in the form of Monica Kanwar-Jones who has been employed as Engagement Co-ordinator, with funding from the Learning Skills Council through the Milton Keynes Economy and Learning Partnership, strengthening the relationship with thecentre:mk's retailers. Monica has a strong training background in retail having spent 5 ½ years at Selfridges in Birmingham as a Learning and Development advisor designing & delivering inductions, advising on recruitment and identifying training needs.

"It's great fun to be dealing with the retailers on a day to day basis," said Monica. "The retail world is so dynamic that the training provided must be of the highest quality. That's why the new NVQ's are so exciting, they're a new challenge for me and I can't wait to let the retailers know all about them."
