I spent some time yesterday with Glenn Chapman the Milton Keynes Goldsmith who’s business The Goldsmithy is located in a studio at the ArtWorks-mk centre in Great Linford.
Now i had lots of preconceptions about jewellery and an afternoon spent with Glenn put me right.
Glenn is a Cartier trained Goldsmith with over 35 years experience of designing and making bespoke jewellery.
I asked Glenn what is the difference between a jeweller and a Goldsmith,
“A jeweller is somebody who sells jewellery, but a Goldsmith is a craftsman who designs and makes jewellery by hand”
We then moved onto the subject of the uniqueness of his products, every single piece is unique as he will design and create them from an initial consultation with his client.
As Glenn pointed out to me nearly every single piece of jewellery we purchase on the High St will have been manufactured at least 30 times over.
Think about that, the precious necklace you purchased for a loved one can be found another 30 times, nothing unique about that.
The same jewellery will probably have been mass produced in the Far East.
A piece made by The Goldsmithy will be pure in the content of the metal and in the design of the jewel.
You can be a part of the design process and even have a hand in the making of your own precious item.
Items that Glenn can create for you range from Wedding rings, Engagement rings, Tie Pins, Lighters, Watches to necklace, card boxes and club trophies.
If you are thinking of purchasing a piece of jewellery and want something truly special give a Glenn a call, you will not be disappointed. See The Goldsmithy for more details
