Traditional British and Rare Breeds meat, handed down recipes, farm baked pies and cakes, local vegetables and lots more are all at Crossroads Farm Shop near Eastwell, Melton Mowbray!
Crossroads Farm Shop, near Eastwell, Melton Mowbray, is a family run business started by Alan and Jane Hewson.
In the butchery, Alan and son David, sell traditional British and rare breeds meat. Pork is from their own farm reared Middle Whites and Berkshires, they dry cure their own bacon and hams and their roasting joints are guaranteed tasty and moist with first class crackling!
Nearly all the beef is their own, including Angus Bull and Lincoln Red hung beef (for 3 weeks).
They make their own sausages, many from recipes handed down to them by David Barker, a retired Melton Mowbray butcher. These include:
- pork & bacon
- pork & stilton
- lamb & mint
- lamb & rosemary
- beef & mustard
All sausages are 80% meat and gluten free ones are available.
Cooked Meats include faggots, Haslet, corned beef, belly pork, ham, sausage rolls and brawn.
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are Fresh Meat Pie Days. These include:
- steak
- steak & kidney
- mince & onion
- lamb & minted gravy
- pork, apple & onion cooked in cider
- chicken & mushroom
Daughter Sarah, runs the bakery and always uses the best quality ingredients. She makes cakes, pastries, and slices. A special mention should be given to her superb sponge cakes! Sarah will make birthday cakes to order with beautifully handwritten messages on them. She caters for parties and funeral teas, everything being made on the premises.
On the fruit and vegetable side, this Melton Mowbray farm has been growing potatoes for 73 years! Most of the fruit and vegetables sold are English and local where possible. Crossroads Farm Shop is a collection point for Woodlands Organic Boxes.
They also sell farm made gravy, free range eggs (including bantam & duck eggs), Belvoir drinks, locally produced cheeses, Stokes' Gold Award mayonnaises, Christine Bates' homemade range of jams and preserves, local honey and a range of Fairtrade products.
The Farm Shop is situated just 6 miles north of Melton Mowbray. Opening Times (from 10 January 2008):
- Thursday 10am to 5pm
- Friday 9am to 7pm
- Saturday 9am to 4pm
- Closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Please note the farm shop is closed on Bank Holidays and each following Tuesday and can only accept cash or cheques. Feel free to ring before visiting to check availability of certain products.
