England Cricket Captain wins Stapleford Park Golf Tournament
Ashes winner Michael Vaughan took the first prize at “The Race to Brunei” Golf Tournament, staged at Stapleford Park Hotel in Leicestershire.
‘I have won a lot in cricket including the Ashes, but this is the first golf tournament I have won’ said the former English cricket captain. Michael Vaughan pipped Matt Dawson, England Rugby World Cup winner into second place.
“The Race to Brunei” Golf Tournament was organised by The Stapleford Forum, the events arm of Stapleford Park Hotel.
With 60 players entered, the prize was a trip to Brunei for both the winning pair and the winning individual - a trip to play in the 2010 Pro-Am of the Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters.
On the eve of the tournament, the players attended a pre-tournament dinner at which both Manuel Pinero [former Ryder Cup player] and Roger Chapman [Senior Pro’s Tour player] addressed a fascinating Q&A session.
The Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters takes place in Brunei on March 4th - 6th. “The Race to Brunei” was sponsored by the Brunei Tourist Board, Brunei Royal Airlines and The Empire Hotel, Golf and Country Club where the winners will stay for a week during the tournament.
