I find it quite satisfying to see local places on the telly. Mad really, when I could nip down the road and see them for real. We like to watch Countryfile as a bit of feel good family telly on a Sunday evening. So there we were crunching on a bag of Hula Hoops watching the Duke of Devonshire talk about how marvellously "bling" his restored gold window frames are. I'm not a huge fan of bling as a general rule, and I am not sure these gilded windows really qualified as such. Either way, they look fine at Chatsworth but it is not a look we are going to adopt at home.
I thought it was a bit odd when, discussing the portraits in the new gallery, the Duke sounded a bit cagey about his daughter-in-law becoming a future Duchess. What's the story there I wondered . . .
Turns out that everything is hunky dory between everyone in the family, and that the Duke sounded a bit offish because he is not a fan of hereditary titles and thinks that the title should end with him.
