I loved this comment left on the Raft Race events page.  thought it was worth sharing on the blog because they raised such a princely sum for charity.  Geoff - any chance of a photo?

Well this was our first raft race at matlock but will not be our last. We arrived at the quarry and it was packed, paid our entry fee and took the raft down to the launch point. Although the orginisers had sorted a slipway down to the towpath the unit was very narrow so our raft a 2mtrs wide was stuck on the poles, after much tugging we got it down to the path . when they put it off the path it went sideways over the edge and flipped over .WE went into the water to right the raft and all jumped aboard . From then on it was plain sailing down the Derwent over some shallow areas.Spectators pellted us with flour bombs and snow ball (some were well compact to make them like ice bombs). We sailed on towing a group that had lost all their paddles but after a while Kelly got fed up and cut them adrift, she is a hard woman is that one When we reached the weir we waited our turn to go down , this part is not for the faint hearted! we lost our skid over the weir but the raft stayed together till the end . we pulled the raft ashore at cromford meadows and were just glad we had done the course.Would we do it again most certainly The new raft design is on the drawing board. So look out 2010 THE HOSTESS RESTAURANT raft team are out to do better we also raised £1400. for the charities and hope to beat it next year.
