We spent last Sunday at the first Marlow Food Festival organised by Helen Rathbone of Flying Pig events. It was an enjoyable and successful day for us and the sun shone too! Perfect for Man Meat Fire who were doing a barbecue demonstration. We met a couple of new businesses to Marlow who had stands near us. The Marlow Cupcake Company were selling their delicious cupcakes and promoting their brand new business. Beehive Treats are opening soon in Spittal Street. Good news for the sweet toothed amongst us as
they will be opening a traditional sweet shop with sweets in jars just like I used to buy when I was younger.
Scrumptious who sell home-made cakes and biscuits were also there and if you liked what they sold they can be found every other Sunday at Marlow Farmers Market. Rebellion Brewery were giving away free beer, very tempting for Phil. I tasted 2 wines at the Bertrand & Nicholas stand, one of which was a very nice Viognier.
Heston Blumenthal gave a well attended masterclass and I managed to attend the session given by Jo Pratt who has extensive experience of TV cookery programmes. Giancarlo Caldesi also gave a masterclass about making pasta.
Miles Nixon from aubergine, Michael Macdonald of the Vanilla Pod and Chocolatier Damien Allsop also gave materclasses.
On the non-food side the Flower Room from lane End had a really attractive stand. The Crowne Plaza had a barbecue with chicken fillets and prawn kebabs and were promoting the huge number of events they have coming up in the Autumn. Taplow House Hotel had a fun challenge where you had to guess the 5 sweet and/or savoury ingredients in a small pot.
We're looking forward to next year.
