Just the ticket: avoid the scams this Christmas
Anyone thinking of buying event or concert tickets as a Christmas present is being reminded to take extra care to ensure they are getting the genuine article.
Tickets to a live festival or concert can make a great gift, so Buckinghamshire Trading Standards is offering a helpful checklist for residents buying tickets online:
- The sure way to avoid a scam is to buy only from official websites and ticket agencies.
- If you buy from an unofficial website, make sure they have a UK landline phone number and that you know where their office is based. Be suspicious of PO Box numbers.
- Always read the terms and conditions on any website you buy from.
- Pay by credit card if you can, as this increases your chance of getting your money back if you are the victim of a scam.
- Only buy from websites that are encrypted for payment. Look for the closed padlock and a web address that begins with https://
Bill Chapple, Deputy Leader of Buckinghamshire County Council said: “Our Trading Standards team works hard to protect consumers, and by following these tips people can make sure they don’t fall foul of a scam. As Christmas approaches and everyone is rushing to complete all their preparations, it’s important to take the time to make a few basic checks that will keep you safe when shopping online.”
