Leicestershire County Council is proposing to save money and carbon emissions by switching off many of the street lights in Market Harborough during the night.
We’re wondering what you think of this – is it a good idea or not? Town councillors are also keen to hear the views of local people before responding to County Hall on the proposals.
If approved, the scheme would take effect in the new year, turning off around 1,600 street lights in the town between midnight and 5.30am. However, lights at certain key junctions, traffic calmed areas, pedestrian crossings, areas covered by CCTV and designated sheltered housing areas would remain on throughout the night.
The County Council expects to save around £23,000 and 3,000 tonnes of carbon with the scheme.
