High Street in Market Harborough is due to be closed to traffic from Bowden Lane to Coventry Road for the next six weeks. It’s all part of the £1m project by Severn Trent to replace 2km of the water main which supplies the town and surrounding area.
This is Phase 3 of the project, which has already seen road closures and restrictions in Burnmill Road and Bowden Lane.
It’s frustrating, to say the least, for the town’s businesses, but everyone is keen to get the message out there that High Street is very much OPEN during the disruption!
During the closure, local south-bound traffic will be diverted off Leicester Road along Alvington Way, through Great Bowden, and on to St Mary’s Road via Station Road and Great Bowden Road.
Northbound traffic will be sent along Coventry Road and then Fairfield Road, emerging on Leicester Road near the town police station.
Abbey Street will become a two-way system, allowing access to cars, as will Church Square.
Once this phase of work is completed, expected to be by August 29, the next phase will move to Coventry Road, which will be closed in two stages between the Commons Car Park and Fairfield Road.
Everyone is concerned about the disruption to the town centre but our message to you all is that it’s business as usual, with lots of summer holiday fun to look forward to, so please keep coming in to town, support the local businesses and don’t let the road works put you off!
