The current scanner was provided by the charity a decade ago. Since then there has been a huge leap forward in terms of technology and the new equipment will not only reduce the time of a standard scan by 30 minutes from 45 minutes to 15 minutes but it will also aid doctors in diagnosing cancer and cancer related illnesses much more quickly. This early diagnosis will enable them to provide early treatment that will ultimately save children's lives.
In addition to the five celebrity Ambassadors fronting the Appeal - all of whom host a large fund raising event each year as well as attending many others - there are many other celebrity Patrons who lend their support including: Sir Alex Ferguson CBE, Take That and Her Majesty's Royal Marines to name but a few.
A further "star" is Danielle Proudfoot who provided a link between the charity and the hospital. She was treated at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for over two years but in 2006 lost her brave fight against cancer. Her legacy lives on and she continues to be an inspiration to all those involved in this charity.
