It’s cheap, it’s sociable, environmentally friendly, good for your health and fun!
That can't be said about many things these days but the benefits of cycling will never change. And opportunities to get on your bike, whatever your style or ability, are right here in Manchester.
Fast and Furious
Manchester's brand new Indoor BMX track will be open for business from 8th August but you can get a sneak preview by visiting the Open Day on Saturday 6th. There are conducted tours of the facility, you can watch the riders on the BMX track or take part in a taster session on the velodrome track.
There are also skateboard displays and you can take along your board if you fancy joining in. Take along your bike and have it checked over by a qualified mechanic, or just take along the family to see the huge range of facilities available.
Everybody's welcome and you can find more details at the National Cycling Centre website.
Family Fun
Prefer a gentler pace and the unique opportunity to cycle through the streets of Manchester without a car in sight? Skyride is in Manchester on the 7th August. Last year’s event was attended by more than 20,000 cyclists and this year promises to be bigger and better. No matter what your age, or if you're a bit wobbly, it’s free and easy and everyone can get involved. Even if you don't have a bike, you can hire one from Cyclexperience.
The route takes in Castlefield, Deansgate and Sports City, but you can join in wherever you like and ride for as long as you choose. It's recommended you register to keep things safe and make sure there are enough goodies for everyone!
Visit the Skyride website to register and find out more.
