Nothing signals the imminent arrival of Christmas in Manchester more than the annual celebration that is the big switch on.

In recent years, this honourable task has been performed by the likes of Joe McElderry, Alexandra Burke, Leon Jackson (who?!) and Shayne Ward.....anybody else notice a pattern forming here?! However, this year already promises not one but TWO chart topping performers, neither of whom were bred from the X Factor stable (although there's time yet, I'm sure).

Girls Aloud stunner Nicola Roberts will be performing as part of the evenings entertainment. As well as her phenomenal success with Britain's first ladies of girl bands, Nicola has successfully carved out a flourishing career in the make up business, is credibly holding her own as a solo artist and has established herself as one of our best loved, quirky style icons.

Also on hand to entertain the crowds will be chart topper Tinchy Stryder who, with three consecutive top three singles has brought 'grime' to the masses (that's music not muck). For a touch more refinement the magnificent Manchester Show Choir will be in full voice.

Add to this a special performance by cast members from Dirty Dancing, an appearance by the Opera House's Cinderella Suzanne Shaw and a special message from a star of the Lowry Scrooge show and it's clear already that this is going to be a spectacular evening.

If you're still in any doubt, the winners of the Printworks Street Dance Competetion, Soar INK will be busting some serious moves, and the whole event will be hosted by Key 103's Mike Toolan and Chelsea Spokes.

Local stalls will be selling festive treats and the evening concludes with a breathtaking Firework Finale.

No tickets required, no entrance fee, just wrap up warm, forget your troubles and welcome the Festive season in style.
