With so much emphasis on the apparent 'obesity epidemic', it's perhaps more important than ever to make sure we encourage our youngsters to incorporate physical activities into their day-to-day lifestyle.
Sadly this is often much easier said than done. Traditional sports just don't appeal to many teenagers in the way they used to, particularly if the alternative is the excitement of interactive, computer-generated games played in the warm and familiar surroundings of home.
With this in mind, Manchester City Council offers Urban Mania, a programme of funky activities for young people giving them challenging opportunities to improve skills and fitness. It's a fantastic way to socialise, have fun and try something new and just a bit different from the norm.
Taking place all year round in various local sports venues across Manchester, the Urban Mania programme includes:
- Body Max - A combination of interval cardio training, core conditioning, strength and flexibility for a total body work out
- Martial Arts Mania - A programme of mixed Martial Arts to improve balance, fitness and co-ordination
- Skate Board Mania - In various locations and aimed at all abilities, whether you're just learning or want to improve your tricks and skills
- Teen Zumba - High energy, fun Latin-inspired dance fitness that never fails to lift your spirits whilst doing some serious calorie burning
All sessions are for age 11 years and upwards.
Urban Mania is just one of a wide range of fun and exciting programmes for all ages and lifestyles. To find the one that's right for you, visit Manchester City Council's Active Lifestyles website.
