The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital treats up to 200,000 children each year suffering from cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
The Five Stars charity has been providing the hospital with essential equipment and refurbishments through its fundraising for over 35 years and continues to go from strength to strength, most recently raising £550,000 to provide an MRI scanner which will undoubtedly save the lives of many children through early diagnosis.
Celebrity vs Civilian Charity Boot Camp
On the 29th January at 10.30am, you are invited to Hale Country Club and Spa, Clay Lane, Timperley
Pit your strength and endurance against Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars, including Shobna Gulati (Sunita Alahan) and Kelvin Fletcher (Andy Sugden) and the original Big Brother winner Craig Phillips. Celebrity trainer Scott Wright (Coronation Street, Emmerdale and more recently Shameless) will be kicking off the training sessions and the event will be covered by OK! Magazine.
Raising funds in memory of Madison Allen – a seven year old Lancashire girl who tragically lost her fight against an aggressive form of cancer on Boxing Day 2011 – all are invited to join the boot camp for a small fee of £2 for the charity.
In addition, every entrant will be automatically entered into a prize draw treasure hunt, with tickets for prizes such as luxury hotel stays and spa treatments placed strategically around the assault course.
Add to this an auction to win a ‘money can’t buy’ prize - a course of personal training sessions with three trainers from the club – the aforementioned Scott Wright plus Steve Bell and ex-Wigan Warriors Rugby Player, Wesley Cotton and that's an awful lot of fun and excitement for just £2, and you may finally get your face in a glossy magazine!
Hale Country Club and Spa are also offering free boot camp sessions to members who sign up pre-launch in February and March. The state of the art facilities will offer membership to local people and is expected to be at capacity or at least almost full, by the time the facilities are officially opened.
Clearly, once you have put in all that effort, you will deserve a reward.
The Hi-Life Dining Awards - Hosted by TV Presenter Paul Ross
Again in aid of The Five Stars Appeal, this event takes place at the luxurious Midland Hotel in Manchester on Friday 3rd February. 'The Most Glittering Event in the Dining Calendar' will see you start your evening with an elegant champagne reception relaxing and mingling with celebrities, famous chefs, sports stars and restaurateurs.
A gourmet dining experience prepared by Executive Head Chef Gary Jenkins will be followed by an Oscar styled awards ceremony rewarding the skills and talent of the cream of chefs and restaurateurs.
Then prepare to be transported back to the 70's by a spectacular live performance from Gwen Dickey – the legendary Rose Royce singer performing classic hits including 'Car Wash' 'Wishing on a Star' and 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore.'
Securing the services of the extremely funny television and radio presenter Paul Ross (Jonathan's better looking brother!) as host is possibly the icing on this particular (gourmet!) cake and we think it's safe to say a fabulous evening of fine dining, music and laughter is guaranteed.
