The Malvern Hills Conservators are your local Conservation Organisation that works incredibly hard to conserve the hills stunning profile and ensure it remains an area of outstanding National beauty.
The beautiful Malvern Hills are managed and cared for by The Malvern Hills Conservators our local conservation organisation, their aims are :-
- Conservation of the Malvern Hills for future generations
- Prevent encroachment
- Protect the rights of the Commoners
- Conservation of the natural aspect of the Malvern Hills
- Keep the land open and unbuilt on for the enjoyment and pleasure of the public
The area of land under The Malvern Hills Conservators jurisdiction is approximately 3,000 acres...it is estimated there are more than 100 miles of footpaths covering this conservation area.
Malvern's national importance was recognised in 1959 when it was declared an official Area of Outstanding National Beauty. Within this area are 12 official Sites of Special Scientific Interest - including the entire ridge of the Malvern Hills.
Staff from the Malvern Hills Conservators and volunteers work incredibly hard at looking after and conserving the Malvern Hills and surrounding areas, continually cutting down saplings, coppicing trees and clearing bracken. The importance of this conservation and keeping vegetation down is to encourage butterflies, insects and wild flowers back onto our hills, and at the same time conserve its stunning profile.
Although the prime work of the Malvern Hills Conservators is the conservation of the Malvern Hills, there is a multitude of other tasks that are undertaken. With the recent storms and heavy rainfall, blocked roads and paths caused from fallen trees have had to be cleared too.
With the ever increasing amount of visitors to the Malvern Hills, the Malvern Hills Conservators encourage the use of some of the lesser known parking areas - with better signage and information boards other desirable areas of the Malvern Hills can be promoted and enjoyed, helping to alleviate the overcrowded British Camp area.
