Acorns Children's Hospice

Your Local Registered Charitable Organisation

There are an estimated 1,600 children in the heart of England who are life limited or life threatened - this means they are unlikely to reach adulthood.

Acorns Children's Hospice currently cares for nearly 600 of these children as well as providing support for their families at every stage of their child's life and into bereavement.

We provide short break, emergency and end-of-life care from the hospices, with a dedicated community team to support the family 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our Hospices

Acorns has three 10 bed children's hospices: Acorns in Birmingham (located in Selly Oak), Acorns in the Black Country (located in Walsall) and Acorns for the Three Counties (located in Worcester).

The hospices are designed to be a home-from-home to help children enjoy their stay and make the most of every day.

Games rooms, soft-play areas, gardens and lots of toys help to ensure a happy stay. The hospices have therapeutic facilities such as hydrotherapy pools and multi-sensory rooms.

As a charity, Acorns receives less than 30% statutory funding. With hospice running costs of over £8million a year, Acorns relies heavily on community support and fundraising events to raise money. We urgently need your support to help us continue to provide our specialist care services.

Many of the children we care for are unlikely to reach adulthood.

Please help Acorns to support local children to make the most of their lives and provide support for their families.

Acorns for Three Counties

Acorns for the Three Counties, based in Worcester, opened in 2005.

The hospice supports children with life limiting and life threatening conditions and their families in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The hospice is small and informal, warm and welcoming, with a real home-from-home feel. There are no uniforms or set routines and the mix of therapy, play and specialist nursing care ensures that Acorns children make the most of every day. There are 11 specially-equipped bedrooms, a multi-sensory room, family flats so parents can stay close by, and a hydrotherapy pool, which plays a vital role in helping to unlock the potential of many young people.

Acorns for the Three Counties has its own adolescent unit to support teenagers. This unit gives adolescents space away from younger children and a degree of independence. The hospice has two special bedrooms, where children can stay after death and before their funeral, and a peaceful memorial garden. There is an acre of interactive gardens, including a donkey paddock and a Caribbean-themed garden complete with its own desert island!
