Diana Stenning who is a national fundraiser for Tommy's based in Maidenhead has sent us information about a Baby Race the Charity is organising in Berkshire this September. The aim of Tommy's is to fund medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage, and provide a free information service that educates all parents-to-be about health in pregnancy.
Tommy’s is calling upon parents, prams and babies in and around Berkshire to take part in the charity’s Baby Race this summer
More exciting than your average stroll in the park, this 8km Baby Race means people in Berkshire will be able to actively help Tommy’s give more babies the best start in life.
The race, held in conjunction with Buggyfit, the outdoor fitness class for mums and babies, will take place at Virginia Water in Windsor Great Park on 10th September, beginning at 10am.
Along with babies and buggies, hundreds of like-minded mums and dads – or other relatives who want to take part – can power walk or run the stunningly beautiful courses. The event will begin at 10am with an aerobic warm-up, led by Buggyfit’s qualified instructors. Upon crossing the finish-line, each participant will be awarded a fun-packed goodie-bag which includes swag from leading brands such as Cow & Gate. With children’s entertainers at each venue to keep little-ones happy, the events are something the whole family can enjoy.
Tommy’s is asking each participant to try and raise £50 sponsorship – enough to pay for a midwife to speak to and help up to 20 worried parents. If 200 runners were to raise this, the £10,000 would be enough to pay for a research assistant on one of the charity’s vital research projects.
Everyone to raise sponsorship money will be entered into a prize draw to win a hamper of natural skincare products for mum and baby from Miamoo (miamoo.co.uk). There are further prizes available if you raise over £100, £500 or even over £1,000.
Jane Brewin, Chief Executive of Tommy’s, says: “Tommy’s Baby Race is a great day out for all involved and a really fun and rewarding way of getting active whilst raising money for a great cause. The money raised goes on to help Tommy’s ensure that more parents are lucky enough to have healthy, happy babies”.
Claire Jones from HUGGIES® Club, said: We’re proud to support the Tommy’s Baby Races this year. The events offer an enjoyable day out and a chance for parents to get fit and bond with their little-ones whilst raising money for a truly admirable cause. HUGGIES® are with you every step of your journey as a parent, from caring for your newborn right through to potty-training. Why not join in and help Tommy’s give every baby the best chance of being born healthy?”
Registering for the Baby Race couldn’t be easier: just visit www.tommys.org/babyrace. Entry costs £14.50, which includes your T-shirt, goodie-bag and training plan.
