If you have pain, discomfort, tension, stress or any musculo-skeletal condition or injury, Remedial Massage Therapy can offer relief and promote the body’s natural healing process.
With over 7 years experience of successfully treating patients from my clinic in Lutterworth town centre, I am passionate about helping you to manage your health using the scientific, but natural, healing approach of massage therapy.
Here are answers to some common questions I get asked about Remedial Massage Therapy:
What exactly is Remedial Massage Therapy?
Remedial massage therapy is a hands-on technique that gently massages the muscle tissue. The manipulation promotes natural healing for a curative or therapeutic effect. Because it works deeper than regular relaxing massage, its effects are usually deeper and longer lasting.
How does it work?
Remedial Massage stimulates the body's healing mechanism by:
• Increasing blood flow, both locally and generally, to improve circulation
• Increasing lymphatic flow to and from the treated area to reduce pain, swelling and inflammation
• Relieving stress and tension, known to hinder the healing process
• Reducing muscle tension, balancing the muscles and increasing muscle tone, all enabling greater mobility
• Over time, breaking down scar or fibrous tissues to improve joint mobility
What happens during a treatment?
At your first consultation I will ask you questions to understand your lifestyle, for example hobbies, sport, exercise, occupation, medical history. I will do a full examination and assessment of your condition.
I can then recommend a treatment plan which will treat the cause of the disorder, as well as the symptoms.
Treatments will include soft tissue massage, mobilisations and stretching. I may also recommend some self-management techniques.
Are you professionally qualified?
Yes, professional massage is a very skilled art performed through the hands of a competent and qualified therapist. I carried out my training and qualification through the Northern Institute of Massage, completing a thorough course which included study of anatomy, physiology, related pathology and the techniques of Swedish massage, heat and cold therapies, kinaesthenics and other related fields.
Having successfully completed this training and examination, I became a member of the London & Counties Society of Physiologists (LCSP) which has strict codes of conduct to which its members must adhere. You can therefore be totally assured that I:
1. Have successfully completed professional training to the required standard
2. Observe the highest degree of integrity and responsibility with regard to the practice of massage therapy
3. Maintain total respect for patient confidentiality
4. Practice in a professional manner
I am registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), GPs are asked to recommend patients who are seeking complementary therapies to consult with practitioners who are CNHC registered.
